Why this matters to Rae
This work is deeply personal to me, because I have been exactly where you are.
I remember one evening when my husband invited me to a gathering with friends. I said no. Not because I didn’t want to go. Not because I had something urgent to handle. But because I had created a list of self-imposed deadlines that felt more important than my own life.
I had started my business because I wanted freedom. Freedom to spend time with the people I loved. Freedom to build something meaningful. Freedom to create a life that felt like mine. Yet somehow, I had built myself right back into a cage.
At the time, I was building my business while working full-time for a remote company. My weeks looked like flying to Washington, D.C. on Monday mornings, returning Thursday evenings, rehearsing on Fridays, and working weddings every weekend.
I was exhausted. I was operating entirely in survival mode.
Without realizing it, I had defaulted into the Achiever Archetype, not because it was who I truly was, but because it was what I needed to do to keep my head above water.
And while that version of me was productive, she wasn’t fulfilled. I was attracting clients who weren’t aligned. I was saying yes out of fear. I was overworking, overdelivering, and constantly chasing the next opportunity because I believed I had to.
The more successful I became on paper, the further I drifted from the reason I started my business in the first place. Eventually, I reached a point where I had to ask myself a difficult question:
What if the problem isn’t me? What if the problem is that I’ve built a business around survival instead of who I actually am?
That question changed everything. I found myself reconnecting with the little girl who used to plan elaborate parties on note cards for fun. The girl who dreamed. The girl who imagined possibilities. The girl who loved creating experiences. The girl who put that aside while growing up when her parents divorced, she was made all too aware of financial trials and tribulations way too young. The girl who was told to “get her head out of the clouds” and that hard work was the only way. The girl who forced herself into Achiever out of fear of failure and judgement.
That’s when I realized something profound: I’m not an Achiever at my core. I’m a Dreamer. And somewhere along the way, years of pressure, responsibility, and self-imposed expectations had buried that part of me. Once I took ownership of this, everything began to shift.
The results were extraordinary. Within a year, I broke six figures after years of struggling financially despite working nonstop.
I’ve traveled all over the world with clients. I’ve flown, boated, hiked, and explored alongside them as we dreamed up what was possible for their celebrations. I’ve built a business that supports my life instead of consuming it.
But the greatest transformation wasn’t financial. It was falling back in love with my work. It was waking up excited again. It was feeling aligned. It was remembering why I started.
